On March 21, 2024, Tennessee became the first state in the country to protect the music industry from artificial intelligence.
The ELVIS (Ensuring Likeness Voice and Image Security) Act was an update to Tennessee's existing Protection of Personal Rights law, which protected name, image, and likeness. The new law was intended to specifically address "new, personalized generative AI cloning models and services that enable human impersonation and allow users to make unauthorized fake works in the image and voice of others".
